Virtual Production Company Behind Ginny & Georgia, The Boys, Gen V and the Heated Rivalry Will Expand Capacity for Large-Scale Virtual Production Across Canada

TORONTO, ON — Dark Slope, the Toronto-based entertainment company and virtual production studio, today announced the acquisition of virtual production assets from Pixomondo, a leading visual effects and virtual production company owned by Sony Entertainment, significantly expanding the company’s capacity to support large-scale film and television productions across Canada. Dark Slope also acquired select assets from Pixomondo’s Vancouver operation. The acquisitions build on Dark Slope’s existing 75,000-square-foot Toronto production campus and give the company the equipment and infrastructure to design and deploy custom LED volumes for productions of virtually any size or scale, both at its studios and on location.
“Productions are under enormous pressure to deliver bigger, more cinematic worlds while being smarter about managing ever-evolving budgets and production schedules,” said Dan Fill, President of Dark Slope. “Dark Slope has always been focused on solving that problem: Giving filmmakers an elevated look without an elevated price tag? This acquisition takes us a step further. We can now build a custom LED volume to virtually any scale and bring it to the production, rather than forcing the production to fit the stage.”
Pixomondo, a leading visual effects and virtual production company, built LED stages with the acquired equipment for productions including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy. By integrating these assets with Dark Slope’s existing virtual production infrastructure and team, Dark Slope will be able to support productions at greater scale while giving filmmakers more flexibility in how and where they shoot.
“These are industry leading virtual production assets built to support productions at the highest level, and Dark Slope has the team and expertise to maximize what they can do,” said Christopher Cox, Global Head Virtual Production and Head of PXO Clara at Pixomondo. “As Canada continues to attract ambitious film and television projects, Dark Slope is well positioned to put this technology to work for the next generation of productions shooting here.”
Dark Slope has quickly become a virtual production partner for major scripted productions including Ginny & Georgia, The Boys, Gen V and the HBO Max/Crave breakout Heated Rivalry, which filmed extensively at Dark Slope’s Toronto facility. Dark Slope’s virtual production team will also support an upcoming preschool puppet-hybrid production.
Dark Slope is also seeing growing demand from unscripted productions looking to use LED volumes to create more ambitious visual environments for game and competition formats.
The acquisition comes as Dark Slope continues to expand its production footprint in Canada with plans to open a new studio in Vancouver in the coming weeks.
Dark Slope is represented by Independent Artist Group (IAG).
